Wisconsonite

There are those times you need your best friend to really be there for you and when they are and they completely hear you out and are your shoulder to lean and cry on you're left feeling very grateful. But sometimes your best friend just needs you to be there for her 113%. For me this moment happened back in March when a relationship she was in was breaking her amazing, kind, and loving heart. I did what I could to console her. I was able to relate to her situation quite a bit having gone through such a similar breakup. However, when Dee got the invite to her oldest, childhood friends wedding, she knew she didn't want to go alone and the relationship she was in was already over.

This is where my adventurous side comes out. Sort of. I told her that I would be her plus one to the wedding if she didn't mind taking her best friend as her date! She accepted my offer and the last weekend of September was set aside for a little road trip to Waupaca, Wisconsin.

It started out a long day of driving on Friday. We hit so many detours and traffic once we hit Chicago, it was a huge pain in the ass. Especially since we were making record time! Then we missed an exit in Wisconsin that took us right into downtown Milwaukee. We got to see the Leinenkugel Brewery, but our GPS took us right through the bad part of town.

Once we got to where we needed to be we checked into our hotel that looked like a scene straight out of the movie Psycho! It was like at moment Norman Bates, or the giant scary looking men in the room next to us, would come barging in at any minute. It was the type of place we couldn't even fathom taking our shoes off at. We scoped out the room and felt so spooked that we found another hotel as quickly as possible and packed up the car quicker than you could imagine. All the while, three men are sitting in lawn chairs around their cars smoking pot and cat calling at us.

Once that part of our adventure was over, it was time to go see the groom, Nick. We visited for a couple hours and it was one of the sweetest things to witness a friendship reconnected, in person, after 15 years! We sat and talked about the difference in accents based on locations of residence. It was hilarious! I will forever laugh at the little helicopters that fall from maple trees because I thought that Nick called them whirley dicks. When in fact he called them whirley gigs. We learned that a person from Wisconsin is in fact NOT called a Wisconsonian (Yea I made that one up on the drive out there)! They're a Wisconsinite, dontcha knooww?

The following day was a great time for Dana and I. We slept in a little and went antique shopping, to a little farmers market, and wine tasting before we got ready for the wedding. We walked away with a couple antiques and bottles of wine.

The wedding venue was a nice, little, old casino on the lake. Dim lighting, candles, and some twinkle lights set the perfect, romantic mood for the happy couple. I didn't know them before this trip, but their love is so evident. They're truly an adorable couple. They have a love I hope to find someday!

The reception was a blast. Dee and I were concerned because we didn't know anyone, but when a couple gals our age asked to sit by us we got to talking and these two were just like us. For a little while now, I've been saying "bish" instead of the word bitch. I have no real reason, but it's amusing at times. So when I overheard one of the girls calling her a friend a bish, I stopped in my tracks to tell them that we say that too! Then of course this happened...

Yes, That's a pitcher of beer!

And then, this happened...

This is Andrew and he stole my heart by politely asking me to dance and holding out his hand for mine. He even intertwined his fingers with mine. Such a little gentleman!

Sunday morning came with no hangovers, just exhaustion. THANK GOD! After visiting the newlyweds and saying goodbye, we were on the road again back home. However, we saw a little village of shops on the side of the road that allowed us to make our final Wisconsin purchases of more wine and of course...cheese!!! I'm a cheese freak, I couldn't leave that state without buying some!

The drive home went much smoother than on the way there when it came to traffic. We were so happy to be home, but the trip in itself was a blast to take! For me I was able to add yet another state to my list of states that I've visited. It's now standing at 28 and as you know I'm trying to reach 30 by the time I'm 30 years old.

I think the best part about this trip was enjoying the one on one time with my best friend. Watching her reconnect with such an old friend. Seeing her enjoy herself, dancing in her own little world to Mambo Number 5 put the biggest smile on my face.

I'm glad we went. I'm glad I got to see a new place and meet new people. I'd only be existing if I didn't get out there and really live and enjoy my life!

Congrats to Nick and Michelle and thank you for allowing us to share in such a wonderful weekend!
